Mr. Zhao Kuncheng specializes in corporate liquidation, reorganization and restructuring.
Mr. Zhao has extensive experience in liquidation and restructuring. As a member of liquidation group, he has been involved in the liquidation of over 60 corporations, covering all kinds of areas of liquidation including but not limited to insolvent liquidation, compulsory liquidation and winding-up. The bodies of the liquidation includes state-owned enterprises (SOEs), large private enterprises, sino-foreign joint ventures and foreign-owned enterprises. The major cases include the insolvency and liquidation of China Southern Securities, Big World Mall and Hongchang as well as the compulsory liquidation of a subsidiary of Weichai Power, etc.
Mr. Zhao has been one of the first lawyers to specialize in bankruptcy and restructuring since the regime of bankruptcy and restructuring was introduced into China in 2007. He has acted as the member of restructuring administrator or head of restructuring legal consultant group of over 40 corporations and has handled the restructuring of Hebei Baoshuo (which is one of the first restructuring cases of listed companies), the restructuring of Suntek Technology, the restructuring of Shenzhen Shenxin Taifeng Group Co., Ltd, the restructuring of Shanghai World Best Co., Ltd, the restructuring of China Kejian Co., Ltd, the restructuring of Shenzhen China Bicycle Company (Holdings) Limited, and the restructuring of Century Plaza Hotel, all of which have critical social effects. He has obtained extensive experience in restructuring and insolvency.
During his years of law practicing, Mr. Zhao has acted as the special legal counsel for numerous corporations, provided legal service on intensive liquidation of subsidiaries of group companies, advised group companies on fulfilling their obligations in shareholder liquidation and on a range of issues left from history during the process of enterprise reformation. The major cases include the liquidation of Sanjiu Enterprise Group's subsidiary, SOE reformation of Guizhou Chitianhua Group. In addition, Mr. Zhao has acted as government's special legal counsel, assisting governments with legal issues of distressed enterprises within their respective jurisdictions, such as Good Friend Tyre Co., Ltd in Jiaozuo, Henan.

Mr. Zhao joined King & Wood Mallesons in 2001 and is a partner in restructuring and insolvency.
Mr. Zhao is also active in academic research and writing. As one of the chief writers, he has participated in the editing of Bankruptcy and Restructuring New Perspective of Renascence of Listed-Company in Difficulty-Concentrating on Judicial Practice and Research on New Issues on Trial of Bankruptcy Cases. He has also published several academic papers on bankruptcy in reputable domestic magazines. In addition, Mr. Zhao Kuncheng has been invited for several times to Bankruptcy Forum of East Asia and had deep communication with domestic and foreign specialists and scholars on the theory and practice of bankruptcy.
Mr. Zhao received his LL.B. from Jilin University. He is now a member of International Association of Restructuring, Insolvency & Bankruptcy Professionals, the executive director of Beijing Bankruptcy Law Society and the deputy director of East Asian Corporate Restructuring Research Center, China University of Political Science and Law. Mr. Zhao was admitted as a Chinese lawyer in 1999.
