Areas of practice

Mr. Yang Zhongqin specialises in civil and commercial dispute resolution and entertainment law, with a focus on real estate, internet, culture and entertainment, healthcare, new retail and new consumption, intelligent technology, and renewable energy.

With rich experience in dispute resolution, Mr. Yang regularly represents well-known large-scale real estate companies in litigations involving housing leasing, sales of commercial housing, cooperation in real estate development, and construction projects. He has also represented clients in a large number of cases involving corporate equity, financial leasing, notes, trusts, investment and financing, with a cumulative value of billions of RMB.

Mr. Yang has dedicated many years to entertainment law, amassing rich practical experience in film and television programs, variety shows, games and e-sports, live streaming, event organisation, club operation, and artist management, among others. He has provided all-round legal services for dozens of film, TV drama and variety show projects, covering investment and financing, filming and distribution, overall marketing and business development. He provides year-round and specialised legal services for numerous platform companies and unicorn enterprises in the culture, entertainment, and sports sectors.

Many of Mr. Yang’s cases were selected as Guiding Cases issued by the Supreme People's Court, or recognised as Deal of the Year by China Business Law Journal, including:

Shanghai Panda Mutual Entertainment Culture Co., Ltd. v Li Cen, and Kunshan Bo'aiyou Information Technology Co., Ltd. (selected as one of the 34th Group of Guiding Cases issued by the Supreme People's Court);

The “Youku Intellectual Property Project” (recognised as “Deal of the Year” in 2014 by China Business Law Journal); and

The “Puyang Lubao Consortium’s Investment in Shanxi Jin Liu Energy” (recognised as Deal of the Year in 2022 by China Business Law Journal).

Mr. Yang is currently a member of the Culture and Media Research Committee of the Shanghai Bar Association and a special researcher at the Intellectual Property Law and Policy Research Institute of East China University of Political Science and Law.

Work experience

Mr. Yang joined King & Wood Mallesons (KWM) in 2023. Prior to joining KWM, he worked as an in-house counsel at Tudou.com, where he gained extensive practical experience in corporate compliance, intellectual property management and protection, and civil and commercial litigation. He also served as a partner in a well-known domestic law firm.

Mr. Yang graduated from Tongji University and East China University of Political Science and Law, earning a degree in engineering and a master’s degree in law, respectively.

Mr. Yang is qualified to practice law in the PRC.
