Wang Rui specializes in IP, corporate legal affairs and foreign direct investment.

Ms. Wang has broad experience in IP legal matters both in China and abroad, having formerly worked as visiting attorney in a major American firm's IP practice group. She has also represented many international and domestic companies in their investments in China in a variety of industries, including sports, media, internet, software manufacturing, automobiles, and construction design. Ms. Wang has similarly extensive experience in representing both domestic and foreign investors in cross-border commercial transactions as well as providing comprehensive legal advice to both Chinese and foreign-invested enterprises. 

When the firm was retained by the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) as its legal counsel in 2002, Ms. Wang worked as one of the chief coordinators of the firm's Olympics team. The legal services she provided to BOCOG included document preparation, participating in negotiations, and rendering legal opinions, in the areas of marketing, broadcasting, cultural events and entertainment, technology, and intellectual property rights protection.

In the past years, Ms. Wang has been recognized by a number of global leading legal media, including: Corporate Live Wire as the Lawyer of the Year for 2014 in the TMT and Sports sectors; China Law and Practice as a Leading Lawyer in the IP sector for both 2014 and 2015, in the TMT sector in 2014; Asialaw's Leading Lawyers as the legal expert in the Asia-Pacific region for both 2014 and 2015; Who's Who Legal as the world's leading Lawyer in the TMT sector in 2016, and Legal 500 in its 2016 Asia Pacific rankings as the highly recommended individuals in the TMT sector.

Work experience

Ms. Wang Rui joined King & Wood Mallesons in 2000.

She obtained a dual LL.B. and B.A. in economics from Peking University. She later received her Master's Degree in Common Law from the University of Hong Kong and her LL.M. from Stanford University. She is licensed to practice PRC law and act as a sports agent in China.

Ms. Wang is proficient in Chinese and English.
