Mr. Liu Yuwu is a partner in King & Wood Mallesons' Dispute Resolution Department, specializing in cross-border arbitration and litigation.

Mr. Liu has extensive experience in representing domestic and foreign clients in various cross-border disputes, including arbitration cases before China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC), Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC), the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce (SCC), Hong Kong International Arbitration Center (HKIAC), London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA) and other arbitral institutions, concerning disputes over PPP/BOT projects, international sales of goods, transfer of equities, mergers and acquisitions, Sino-foreign equity joint ventures, Sino-foreign contractual joint ventures, technology transfer and license, financial leasing, construction projects, foreign trade agency and domain name.

As a core member of the firm's team in representing Wahaha in its global dispute with Groupe Danone, Mr. Liu comprehensively participated in the arbitration/litigation cases in various jurisdictions, including P.R. China, Sweden, the US, Hong Kong, British Virgin Islands and Samoa.

From 2015 to 2022, Mr. Liu has been recognized as a "Leading Lawyers" in the area of dispute resolution in China (including international arbitration and litigation) by Chambers Asia Pacific Guide, one of the world's most authoritative legal directories, Mr.Liu also named as a "Leading Lawyers" by The Legal 500, the world's top law ratings guide. In addition, he was named as a "Leading Lawyers" by Asialaw Profiles and ranked as a “dispute resolution Star” by Benchmark Litigation.

Mr. Liu also serves as an arbitrator in several arbitral institutions, including CIETAC, SIAC, Arbitrator of Beijing Arbitration Commission/ Beijing International Arbitration Center and Xiamen Arbitration Commission. Mr. Liu has heard over 200 arbitration cases as the presiding arbitrator, sole arbitrator or co-arbitrator, and has provided expert opinion in over 50 complex cases.

Mr. Liu is a mediator at the Mediation Center of the China Chamber of International Commerce (CCOIC), an expert at the CIETAC Domain Name Dispute Resolution Center and an associate research fellow in law.

Work Experience

Mr. Liu joined King & Wood Mallesons in 2006. Prior to joining King & Wood Mallesons, Mr. Liu used to be the director of the Domestic Cases Department in CIETAC Secretariat and serve as a member of the Expert Consultative Committee in CIETAC. During his time working for CIETAC, Mr. Liu had dealt with hundreds of arbitration cases and gained extensive hands-on experience.

Mr. Liu obtained his LL.B. from Renmin University of China and LL.M. from University of International Business and Economics. Mr. Liu was admitted to practice law in PRC in 1995. In 2004, Mr. Liu became a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
