Kate is a partner in the Sydney office of King & Wood Mallesons where she specialises in environmental, planning and valuation law.
Kate acts for both private and public sector clients across the infrastructure, real estate and energy and resources sectors. Her work primarily involves advising clients in relation to environmental and planning approval processes, voluntary planning agreements, environmental compliance issues, remediation of land and compulsory acquisition.
Kate is experienced in conducting litigation in the NSW Land and Environment Court in relation to planning, compulsory acquisition and valuation disputes.
Relevant Experience
- Compulsory Acquisition – advising both landowners and acquiring authorities in relation to the compulsory acquisition of land for the Parramatta Light Rail, WestConnex, Sydney Metro and M12 projects. The advice encompasses acquisition strategy and rights to compensation in relation to specific acquisition including preparing submissions to the Valuer General of NSW and running Class 3 proceedings in the NSW Land and Environment Court.
- Greenfield Development – advising landowners in relation to planning and development of greenfield sites in the vicinity of Western Sydney Airport, including advice in relation to unsolicited proposals and developer lead planning proposals.
- Planning & Environmental Due Diligence – advising in relation to managing environmental and planning legal risk in large scale state and federal infrastructure projects and privatisations.
- Redevelopment – advising developers with respect to planning and assessment processes at State, local and federal levels in relation to the redevelopment of strategic sites across NSW.
