John’s experience covers a broad range of matters across a range of industries, including mining, diversified manufacturing, and real estate.  John has particular expertise in tax controversy and litigation, and acts for large multinational corporations and ultra-high-net-worth individuals and family groups.

John's recent experience includes acting on a range of tax disputes, including:

  • Part IVA and SMSF audit and dispute for UHNW family group.
  • Cross-border financing transfer pricing audit and dispute for a global machinery manufacturer.

  • Division 855 dispute concerning sale of shares in entity holding Australian infrastructure assets.
  • Part IVA and transfer pricing audit and dispute concerning transfer of Australian-based intellectual property to foreign related entity.
  • Income tax dispute for a global automotive manufacturer in relation to utilisation of tax losses.
  • Royalties dispute in relation to the characterisation of payments for the use of sporting 'live-streamed vision'.
  • Income tax dispute for a national sporting league in relation to the tax treatment of payments rendered to players for ‘use of image’.
