Ethan specialises in complex disputes arising from major construction projects across the energy and infrastructure sectors. He has experience in many jurisdictions, including the courts of Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, and New Zealand and international arbitration under the ICC rules.

He has acted for contractors and principals in extension of time claims, variation claims, security of payment disputes, and design claims. Ethan also has extensive experience assisting with the administration of contracts before the commencement of disputes and advising clients about defective building complaints with the Queensland Building and Construction Commission.

Ethan is also committed to supporting our pro bono programs. He is a pro bono coordinator for our Brisbane office and regularly acts for clients in a range of pro bono matters.

Ethan’s experience includes:

  • Acted for the principal in proceedings in the Supreme Court of Victoria involving delay, extensions of time, and variation claims concerning the construction of a gas plant.
  • Represented a global shipping contractor as respondent to an ICC arbitration concerning the design and delivery of an off-shore gas production vessel, including seeking injunctive relief in the New South Wales Supreme Court.
  • Acted for a tier one contractor in disputes concerning the construction of a motorway in New Zealand, including claims against the principal and professional negligence claims against design consultants.
  • Represented developers and contractors in security of payment disputes in Queensland and Victoria.
  • Acted for building owners in submitting complaints to the Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) concerning the installation of combustible cladding.
  • Acted for a tier one contractor in responding to a direction to rectify issued by the QBCC concerning asserted fire engineering defects.
  • Acted for a residential building contractor in responding to defective building work complaints submitted to the QBCC by building owners.
