Areas of Practice 

Mr. Sun specializes in the areas of Customs Law, Export Control Law, Cross-border E-commerce and International Trade Compliance. 

Devoted himself to customs practice for nearly 20 years, Mr. Sun has undertaken a number of influential international trade disputes & compliance projects and cross-border e-commerce compliance projects. Mr. Sun has advised clients on customs law, entry-exit inspection & quarantine law and import & export compliance matters. Mr. Sun has profound knowledge and extensive hands-on experience in the field of dispute resolution, including the customs tax payment and commodity classification disputes regarding TFN, country of origin and import price, customs inspection, administrative punishment, administrative reconsideration, administrative litigation and criminal defense of smuggling crime. Such experience regarding customs enforcement equips him with keen insight and judgment on each customs dispute case. He is able to provide tailor-made and effective dispute solutions for different clients according to their requirements.

Apart from accumulating experience in practice, he has done a lot of research on export control law, providing many clients with relevant legal advisory services and training on export control. He has assisted clients in conducting risk screening of import and export trade compliance matters, conducting internal investigation of export control, dealing with administrative investigation or punishment, preparing internal compliance guidelines, establishing and improving the internal control system for export compliance and conducting alternative supply chain planning and compliance assessment.

Mr. Sun was recognized as one of the highly recommended lawyers in the field of WTO/international trade in China by Legal 500 in its 2019 Asia Pacific rankings. Mr. Sun is the customs clearance counsel of the Customs Clearance and Tax Supporting Center of Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Shanghai. He is also a research fellow at the Institute of Customs and Foreign Exchange Law, Renmin University of China. He is selected as an expert member of the Jiangsu FTA Expert Think Tank.

Work Experience

Mr. Sun joined King & Wood Mallesons in 2017. Prior to this, he had 15 years of experience in customs services.

He graduated from East China University of Political Science and Law with a bachelor’s degree in international economic law and Fudan University with a master’s degree in public management.

Mr. Sun’s working languages are Chinese and English.
