Shirley specializes in intellectual property law.
She has 30+ years of work experience in intellectual property law. Apart from registration and transactional IP, Shirley is very experienced in domestic and cross-border IP litigation for patents, trademarks, unfair competition, copyright and domain names. In addition, she has counseled many MNCs on IP strategies, from registration, commercial exploitation to enforcement of IPRs in a diversity of industries including pharmaceuticals, health care and nutritional products, electronics, energy, fashion, automobile, media and entertainment. She has also assisted these clients in setting up R&D centers, devising reward schemes for scientists, as well as IPR acquisitions and due diligence. Shirley has also advised clients in international franchise deals, e-commerce agreements, digital music licenses, sweepstakes and advertising.
Shirley has since the 1990's won many international awards and recognitions in the IP category. In recent years, she has been named in Asia IP Experts (Litigation) from 2014 -2018; Leading Lawyer (IP) by Chambers Global Guide 2013, Chambers Asia-Pacific – 2013, 2014; Franchise Lawyer of the Year in China 2018, 2019 by Finance Law Monthly; International Who's Who in Franchising since 2003; International Who's Who in Trade Mark 2008-2013, 2017-18; and International Who's Who in Patents since 2013.
Shirley has been an arbitrator of CIETAC (Domain Name Dispute Panel) since 2004. Ms Kwok is also a regular speaker at international conferences and has spoken at AIPPI, INTA, FICPI and International Bar Association.
Work Experience
Shirley was a Partner in King & Wood (and then King & Wood Mallesons) between 2010 and 2014. Before that, she had worked with an international law firm as an IP partner, and also worked inhouse with a leading international music label and a governmental healthcare provider. In 2020, she re-joined King & Wood Mallesons as Counsel.
She obtained her LL.B. and LL.M. degrees from the University of Hong Kong and currently practises law in Hong Kong. She has also been admitted (non-practising) in other jurisdictions, namely, England & Wales, Singapore and Australia (State of Victoria and ACT).
Her working languages are Chinese and English.
