Gilles is a partner in the firm’s Projects team based in Sydney. Having spent over 13 years in Hong Kong SAR, Gilles brings a wealth of corporate and projects experience across the APAC region. He regularly advises clients on infrastructure projects in various sectors, including transport, waste, water, social infrastructure throughout Asia and on corporate transactions under Hong Kong law and Australian law (mergers & acquisitions, joint ventures, restructuring).

Gilles’ experience in Projects includes advising:

  • International Finance Corporation (IFC), Chittagong Port Authority and the PPP Authority of Bangladesh: on structuring and implementing a PPP for the equipment, operation and maintenance of the Patenga Container Port in Bangladesh
  • IFC, the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh and the PPP Authority: on structuring and implementing a transaction scheme for private sector participation in the operation and maintenance of Terminal 3 of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (in Dhaka)
  • IFC and the Government of the Philippines: on the review, negotiation and procurement of unsolicited proposals for the upgrade, operation and maintenance of regional airports
  • IFC and the Government of Timor-Leste: on structuring and implementing PPPs in the transport, health and affordable housing sectors
  • IFC and the Government of Papua New Guinea: on structuring and implementing a transaction scheme for private sector participation in an affordable housing PPP project in Port Moresby
  • IFC and the Solomon Islands Ministry of Fishery and Marine Resources: on structuring and implementing a transaction scheme for private sector participation in a tuna processing plant project
  • IFC and the Government of Timor-Leste:  on the structuring and procurement of the Tibar Bay Port PPP Project (IJGlobal Asian PPP Deal of the Year, 2019),
  • IFC: on the structuring and procurement of municipal waste and street lighting PPP projects in India
  • Airport operator: in relation to their bids for greenfield and brownfield airport projects in Myanmar
  • Telecom operator: in relation its bid for GSM telecom licenses in Myanmar
  • Energy company: in relation to the financing of the expansion of a hydroelectric power plant in the Lao People’s Democratic Republic
  • ExxonMobil, Saudi Aramco, Sinopec: advised consortium in relation to the largest integrated refining and petrochemicals sino-foreign joint venture in China
  • Gilles’ experience in M&A transactions includes advising:
  • Egis: in relation to the acquisition of Omada Rail (Australia)
  • Bollore Logistics: in relation to the acquisition of a freight-forwarding business in South Australia
  • Egis: in relation to the acquisition of Sunland (Hong Kong)
  • Egis: in relation to the acquisition of Inhabit (Hong Kong)
  • Fashion brands: such as SMCP, Lacoste, Aigle, Gant, The Kooples, ba&sh, Petit Bateau, Yves Rocher, Leonard, Giuseppe Zanotti, Balmain) in relation to their distribution strategy in the APAC region and ancillary corporate/M&A activities
  • Vallourec: in relation to the acquisition of a minority stake in a PRC company listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange
  • Veolia Transport: in relation to the acquisition of the Hong Kong Tramways
  • Galeries Lafayette: in relation to a joint venture with Hong Kong based retail group for the development of department stores in the PRC

 

Education:

Gilles is admitted as solicitor in New South Wales (Australia), Hong Kong, England and Wales (not practising) and a French avocat (not practising). He completed the last year of his honours degree at Boston University School of Law and holds a DESS in International Business Law from the University of Lyon III - Jean Moulin as well as an LL.M from the University of Melbourne.
