Mr. Liao specialises in trademark, copyright, and anti-unfair competition law, with particular strength in trademark prosecution and dispute resolution.
He has over 20 years of extensive experience in trademark related legal services, representing domestic and overseas clients from start-ups to multinational enterprises in trademark prosecution, licensing, disputes, enforcements, customs recordation, litigation, copyright registration, negotiation and related legal consultancy. He advises clients on well-known trademark strategy and brand portfolio management across the globe. He regularly lectures on trademark issues at international and domestic conferences, seminars, and workshops for companies, regulators, and industry associations. With deep understanding of trademark laws and practice in China and other jurisdictions, Mr. Liao has assisted many domestic clients in worldwide trademark prosecution. He has successfully represented many renowned domestic and foreign companies in trademark disputes.
Mr. Liao has been consecutively ranked among "The World's Leading Trademark Professionals" in China by World Trademark Review (WTR), and the “IP Stars” by Managing Intellectual Property (MIP). Mr. Liao was also enlisted as a legal expert in trademarks by Who's Who Legal, and “Asia IP Experts” by Asia IP. He was awarded “Gold Medal Trademark Agent (2020-2023)” by China Trademark Association.
Work experience
Mr. Liao joined King & Wood Mallesons in 2006. Previously, he worked as a trademark attorney with CCPIT Patent and Trademark Law Office.
He obtained his B.A. degree from Peking University and his LL.M. in Commercial and Corporate Law from University College London. He was admitted as a PRC attorney-at-law in 1999 and trademark attorney in 2000.
He is proficient in Chinese and English.
