Jena Dobie is an experienced litigation and public law lawyer. Her practice specialises in administrative law disputes, statutory interpretation, appellate litigation and regulatory matters, while supporting her clients as a trusted advisor on defensible decision making. Jena represents government and commercial clients in a variety of jurisdictions, including Federal and Supreme Courts, and the Administrative Appeals Tribunal. Her strong catalogue of experience also includes secondment to a Commonwealth client as Principal Legal Officer of the agency’s large litigation team.

Jena is known for her collaborative and practical approach. She has a background in communications practice, and has experience developing training and resources to assist with the delivery of complex statutory regimes and policy positions. She often provides training to statutory decision makers and lawyers around a variety of administrative and public law issues.

Jena’s experience includes:

  • Administrative Law: 10 years’ experience advising and acting for various Commonwealth agencies in relation to both merits and judicial review challenges, before the AAT and Federal Courts.
  • Guidance and Training: Preparing resources and delivering training on defensible administrative decision making, as well as specific guidance and advice on particular regulatory schemes and decision making powers.
  • Investigations: Conducting and advising on investigations commenced under the Public Interest Disclosure Act 2013.
  • Information Law: Advising and acting for clients in relation to privacy issues and disputes under the Freedom of Information Act 1982.
  • Class Actions: Acting for the Commonwealth in multiple class action proceedings concerning claims for negligence and nuisance.
  • Common Law and Civil Litigation: Acting for Commonwealth and private clients in relaiton to a range of litigated and non-litigated tortious claims, including claims that require a trauma informed disputes resolution approach.
