Mr. Huang Tao is a senior partner and the managing partner of the dispute resolution group of King & Wood Mallesons.
Areas of practice
Mr. Huang's practice focuses on cross-border dispute resolution. He has over 20 years' experience in international civil and commercial litigation and arbitration.
Mr. Huang has represented well-known domestic and international companies in hundreds of commercial and maritime cases before the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission ("CIETAC"), the ICC International Chamber of Commerce ("ICC Court"), the London Court of International Arbitration ("LCIA"), the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce ("SCC"), the Hong Kong International Arbitration Center ("HKIAC") and the Singapore International Arbitration Centre ("SIAC"). His representations primarily involve disputes in international trade, cross-border investment and financing and M&As. Mr. Huang has also successfully acted for clients, including large state-owned enterprises and private companies to deal with judicial investigations and trial proceedings in relation to their overseas investments in foreign jurisdictions. In addition, Mr. Huang has represented for hundreds of foreign-related civil and commercial litigation cases before PRC courts at all levels, involving applications to recognize and enforce or set aside foreign arbitral awards.
From 2002 to 2008, Mr. Huang was appointed as a head of the legal working group for the Beijing Organizing Committee of the 29th Olympic Games ("BOCOG"), leading the working group in providing comprehensive legal services to the BOCOG.
In 2015, the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Bid Committee invited Mr. Huang to be the presenter for its legal theme.

Mr Huang was recognised as an “Eminent Practitioner” by Chambers Asia-Pacific and Chambers Greater China Region Guide in Dispute Resolution: Litigation and Arbitration (PRC Firms); a "Leading Individual" in the field of dispute resolution in China by Legal 500 and a "Market-leading Lawyer" by Asialaw Profiles. In 2017, Mr. Huang was listed as one of "China's Top 15 Litigation Lawyers" by Asian Legal Business. In 2018, Mr. Huang was selected as "China's Dispute Resolution Lawyer of the Year" by Asialaw and Benchmark Litigation, "Dispute Resolution Lawyer of the Year" by China Law & Practice and "The A-List 2018: China's elite lawyers" by China Business Law Journal. In 2023 and 2024, Mr Huang was named a “Litigation Star” by Benchmark Litigation for two consecutive years. Matters led by Mr Huang were included in Legal Daily’s fourth and fifth Lists of Typical Cases on “Belt and Road Initiative” Dispute Resolution of Excellent Legal Services.
In 2018, Mr.Huang has been appointed as a panel expert to the Committee for Trail Supervision over Civil and Administrative Proceedings by the Supreme People's Procuratorate.
Work Experience
Huang Tao joined King & Wood Mallesons in 1999. Prior to joining the firm, he was a partner at Beijing Huanzhong & Partners. In 2010, Mr. Huang worked as a visiting lawyer in Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz in New York.
Mr. Huang graduated from the University of International Business and Economics, where he attained his LL.B. and LL.M. He was admitted to practice law in PRC in 1994.
