Ms. Shining Guo specialises in dispute resolution, especially in commercial dispute resolution.

Ms. Guo is proficient at assisting Chinese and foreign clients with complex commercial disputes, she has extensive experience in the field of commercial dispute resolution.  Ms. Guo has handled many significant and influential commercial and maritime disputes for foreign and domestic clients, including commercial litigation and civil tort cases before PRC people’s courts at all levels and special courts for procedures of the first instance, second instance and application for retrial and successfully obtained the Supreme People’s Court’s arraignment, as well as arbitration cases before major arbitral institutions, which includes the Hong Kong International Arbitration Center (HKIAC), International Chamber of Commerce Court of Arbitration (ICC), Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC), Federation of Oils, Seeds and Fats Associations Ltd (FOSFA), China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC), Shanghai International Arbitration Center(SHIAC), Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration(SCIA), and ad hoc arbitrations in Hong Kong and London, in respect of commercial contract disputes, joint venture shareholders’ disputes, financial derivative disputes, equity disputes, product liability disputes, agency agreement disputes, construction contract disputes, commercial house lease disputes, shipbuilding contract disputes, sale of goods disputes, bill of lading, and charterparty disputes. She also represents clients in recognition and enforcement of foreign arbitral awards in China.

Ms. Guo is well experienced in resolving financial disputes. She has represented many multinational and domestic banks and financial institutions to resolve plenty of loan and guarantee defaults disputes, financial derivatives disputes, cross-border equity investment disputes, letter of credit and financial lease contract disputes.  Ms. Guo also provides legal advice and commercial litigation services to a number of domestic and foreign insurance companies.

Ms. Guo is especially proficient in recovering money defrauded in transnational telecommunication fraud for victims, and planning strategic approach for efficient recovery in the cases with criminal and civil overlap.  She has helped quite a few clients to retrieve great economic losses and received high acclaim.  Ms. Guo is adept in bringing criminal charge for victims of economic crimes, including but not limited to financial fraud crimes and intellectual property crimes, she has represented foreign and domestic clients to successfully file economic crimes in PRC.

Ms. Guo is listed on the arbitrator panel of the SCIA.  Ms. Guo is selected as leading talent of lawyers specialize in handling foreign-related matters by the Guangdong Lawyers Association, and selected as the first batch leading talent of lawyers specialize in handling foreign-related matters by the Shenzhen Bar Association.  In 2018, Legal 500 recommended Ms. Guo as cross-border dispute resolution expert.

Work Experience

Ms. Guo started her career as a lecturer in law in Shanghai Maritime University, where she taught undergraduate and LL.M. students for 6 years, subsequently she relocated to Hong Kong and worked as a Registered Foreign Lawyer (PRC) in the Hong Kong office of a top-tier international law firm, during which she taught LL.M. students in the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.  Then she worked in the Shanghai office of a well-known Chinese law firm as a litigation Partner, prior to joining King & Wood Mallesons in 2015.

Ms. Guo obtained her LL.B. from Dalian Maritime University and her LL.M. degree from University College London.

Ms. Guo is admitted in the PRC. Her working languages are Chinese (including Cantonese and Shanghainese) and English.
