Mr. Mark Zhang specializes in foreign investment, cross-border M&A, PE&VC, as well as general corporate matters.

Mr. Zhang has in-depth study and extensive experience in healthcare and life science practice. He provides day-to-day advice for a wide range of pharmaceutical, medical device, gene and cell product company, medical institution, food, cosmetic and other healthcare companies on M&A, license-in/out, clinic trial, product registration and MAH pathway, regulatory, importation, labelling, distribution management, e-healthcare, medical data, innovative business models, compliance (anti-commercial bribery and issues regarding competition law) and daily corporate matters.

Mr. Zhang has advised both foreign and domestic clients in a number of high profile joint ventures and M&A projects in multiple industries, providing services from deal structuring, due diligence, transaction documents drafting and negotiation in closing and post-closing services. He is familiar with foreign investment related legal issues, including governmental examination and approval, competition law issues, foreign exchange administration, land use rights, technology licensing, data compliance and employment. He acts as outside counsel for a number of MNCs, providing them with daily corporate legal services.

In 2015, Mr. Zhang has been named as one of the highly recommended lawyers in the field of corporate and M&A in China by Legal 500 in its 2016 Asia Pacific rankings. From 2018 to 2022, Mr. Zhang was named the "leading lawyer" in the field of medical law by Chambers Greater China Legal Guide and Chambers Asia Pacific Legal Guide. In 2021, Mr. Zhang was recognized as a "well-known Lawyer" in the company's M&A and Private Equity fields by IFLR1000.

Work experience

Mr. Zhang joined King & Wood Mallesons in 2007. Prior to this, he worked in one of the top-class Chinese local firms in Shanghai.

Mr. Zhang gained his LL.B. from the East China University of Political Science and Law in 2002. In 2006, he was involved in the Lord Chancellor's training scheme in London, studying at the University of London, and afterwards he worked at one renowned barristers' chambers for a period of time, then he took position at the London and Hong Kong offices respectively of a magic circle firm. He also used to work in the New York and Silicon Valley offices of King & Wood Mallesons. Mr. Zhang was admitted to the Chinese bar in 2003.
