Mr. Alan Du specialises in fund formation, investment of insurance company assets, foreign direct investment (FDI), mergers and acquisitions (M&A), and non-governmental organisation (NGO).
Mr. Du has extensive experience in the area of onshore and offshore fund formation on behalf of GP or LP, including private equity fund, infrastructure fund, real estate fund, and credit fund registered in China, Cayman, BVI, the US and Europe. Mr. Du has also assisted insurance institutions in investing in onshore and offshore funds, debt investment plans and investment trusts. Mr. Du has participated in the drafting of the policies of Foreign Invested Equity Investment Pilot Scheme (known as the “QFLP” scheme) of Shanghai, and advised PE/FoF clients on formation of QFLP/RQFLP funds in Shanghai, Chongqing, Shenzhen, and Qingdao, their portfolio investments, disposal of investments, and repatriation of investment proceeds. Mr. Du also advised the relevant authorities in Shanghai on the policies of the Pilot Program of Qualified Domestic Limited Partners (known as “QDLP” program), and advised hedge fund managers on the formation of QDLP funds (including the first QDLP contractual fund). In the area of M&A, Mr. Du has advised reputable enterprises and investment funds on a number of important deals.
Mr. Du was ranked as a “Leading Individual” in the area of investment funds by Chambers Asia-Pacific Guide 2016-2020, a “Notable Practitioner” in the area of financial and corporate by IFLR 1000 2017-2018, and a “Highly Regarded Lawyer” in the area of investment funds and M&A by IFLR 1000 2019-2020.
Work experience
Mr. Du joined King & Wood Mallesons (KWM) in 2003. Before joining KWM, Mr. Du worked for a commercial bank, a first tier local law firm, and a U.S law firm.
