Mark Beaufoy is a Partner in the National Environment, Planning and Native Title team. He is an environmental and planning law specialist with over 25 years’ experience.

Mark is experienced in all areas of environmental law including, planning, biodiversity, heritage, water, climate, pollution, contamination and waste. He acts for clients in a wide range of sectors including energy/renewables, resources, infrastructure (including energy, water, telco and transport), real estate (urban growth and infill for a range of property classes), agriculture, the industrial and consumer sectors. He supports clients with environmental impact assessment, planning and environmental approvals, infrastructure contributions, environmental management, regulatory and compliance advice (including on ESG, climate strategies and disclosures), responding to regulator investigations and enforcement, and environmental dispute resolution.

Mark supports clients to navigate emerging environmental issues, the energy transition, net zero and nature positive goals, Federal and State environmental and climate and nature law reform, urban growth and renewal projects, and resolving environmental and planning legal problems practically and commercially.

Mark is recognised as a leading environment and planning lawyer by Chambers & Partners in Australia and Best Lawyers in Australia; and recognised as ‘Preeminent’ in the list of leading Environment & Climate Change lawyers, Victoria in the 2024 Doyles Guide. He has received recognition as ‘contaminated land lawyer of the year’ (Australasian Land and Groundwater Association) and ‘lawyer of the year’ in Water Law (Best Lawyers).

He is a lecturer at Monash University Law School (in climate, planning and environmental law), President of the National Environmental Law Association, and a Trustee for the Trust for Nature (Victoria).
