He guides clients through major technology, sourcing and procurement projects, particularly in regulated industries such as telecommunications, rail, electricity, and financial services.
He led the team advising Telstra in all 3 major negotiations with nbn on the rollout of the nbn network and continues to be a key strategic advisor to Telstra in its dealings with nbn. He is co-leading the team assisting with the current restructure of Telstra, described by the CEO as the most significant restructure of its business since privatisation.
Cheng advises clients on better ways to use and share data without adversely affecting customer trust. He has extensive experience in privacy and data security and has assisted many organisations to deal with high profile data breaches and consequential regulatory investigations.
He is Chair of the Australian firm's Information Technology Governance Committee, responsible for the governance and oversight of the strategic direction of the firm's IT strategy and cybersecurity posture.
Cheng is the only Australian lawyer ranked in Band 1 by Chambers in both the Telecommunications and Information Technology practice areas.
