King & Wood Mallesons (KWM) was awarded the honour at the Mergermarket Middle East Awards 2017. The awards recognise excellence in M&A advisory in the region.
The awards, selected by a panel of independent judges, recognise financial advisors and legal experts in the increasingly competitive field of Middle East M&A.
KWM received the award for advising a shareholder in the El-Khayyat Group on the purchase of LafargeHolcim's interest in Al Safwa Cement Company, Saudi Arabia. Al Safwa Cement Company (ASCC) was established in 2007 in Jeddah in the western region of Saudi Arabia as a joint venture between the El-Khayyat Group - pioneers in the field of building materials in KSA, and Lafarge (now LafargeHolcim).
The transaction took 18 months to complete and required extensive negotiations and closings in both Saudi Arabia and Dubai.
Sandeep Dhama, Corporate Partner, said, "We are delighted to have received this prestigious award which recognises the expertise and commitment of our Middle East Corporate team. This was a deal that required patience, tenacity and skill to provide a successful result for the client.".
