King and Wood Mallesons (KWM) is proud to have acted for Housing Australia, Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility and ANZ on the financing of Queensland’s biggest social and affordable housing project, developed by a consortium led by Tetris Capital and Community Housing Limited.

The transaction will provide funds to support the development of a master-planned community with 490 new social, affordable and specialist disability homes in Woree, in Cairns’ southern corridor.

Once completed, the precinct will consist of one and two-bedroom homes for housing eligible seniors and people living with disability, and will offer independent living support programs to promote a well-connected, vibrant and inclusive community.

The KWM team was led by Partners Claire Rogers (Financing), Amy Maguire (Financing), Steve Swan (Construction) with support from Senior Associates Matthew Hundt (Financing), Lauri Reid (Financing), Nicole Morris (Construction), and Solicitors Eugenia Muñoz (Financing) and Dan Canta (Financing).

Commenting on the deal, Partner, Claire Rogers (Head of Climate and ESG) said:

"We are proud to have advised on this transaction to deliver much needed social and affordable housing in Cairns through a collaboration between various government entities and the private sector”.

The project is financed through funding from the Queensland Government’s Housing Investment Fund (HIF), loans from Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility (NAIF), Housing Australia and ANZ Banking Group and a capital grant from Housing Australia’s National Housing Infrastructure Facility.

KWM continues to advise public and private sector clients on nationally significant infrastructure projects, recently acting for ANZ in its role funding an innovative new private development financing for Super Housing Partnerships.
