King & Wood Mallesons (KWM) is pleased to have advised independent renewable energy company SmartestEnergy Australia (as offtaker) in relation to its power purchase agreement (PPA) with Neoen to purchase 50 per cent of the Culcairn Solar farm’s output for four years.
The Culcairn Solar Farm is located in NSW and seeks to deliver substantial social, economic, and environmental benefits.
The agreement marks another step forward in Australia’s transition to clean energy, reinforcing both companies’ commitment to a sustainable future.
The KWM team was led by Partner Josh Thorneycroft with support from Solicitors Thanaya Naidu and Ruby Day.
Commenting on the deal, Partner Josh Thorneycroft said:
“We are delighted to have worked with SmartestEnergy Australia on this power purchase agreement. We look forward to seeing the contribution the project will play in powering New South Wales businesses and the energy transition."
The offtake arrangement is anticipated to start in 2026.
KWM continues to advise clients on market leading transactions in the renewable energy space, having recently advised BHP on its PPA with CleanCo to supply renewable electricity to BHP Mitsubishi Alliance’s (BMA) steelmaking coal operations and Zen Energy on the Templers Battery Energy Storage System.
