King and Wood Mallesons (KWM) is proud to have advised Aula Energy in successfully reaching financial close on the Boulder Creek Wind Farm project in QLD and subsequent sale of a 50% interest in the project to CS Energy.
In addition to CS Energy becoming a long-term co-investor in the project, it has agreed to purchase Aula Energy’s share of the wind farm’s output for 20 years.
The 228MW wind farm, located 40km southwest of Rockhampton, Queensland, will generate enough clean energy to power the equivalent of more than 85,000 homes per year when it begins operating in 2027.
KWM advised Aula Energy on the sale of 50% interest to CS Energy, alongside project development including construction, grid connection and offtake contracting as well as on property, planning and project financing workstreams.
The cross-disciplinary KWM team was led by Partners Shirley Cheng (Projects/Energy), Chris Dynon (Construction), Jeff Clark (Finance), Chris Pitson (Property) and Henrik Moritz (Corporate) and Malcolm Brennan (FIRB) with support from Senior Associates Morgan Clune, Aaron Brooks and Solicitor Thanaya Naidu (Projects/Energy), Senior Associates Shubho Mukherjee and Edward Kus (Construction), Special Counsel Joanna Taylor and Solicitors David Kennelly and Katie Nikolaou (Finance), Senior Associates Tanya Bromilow and Nicola Wang (Property), and Senior Associates Jessica Thiyavutikan and Laura Bernhardt (Corporate) and Senior Associate Eveline Kuang and Solicitor Grace Kelly (FIRB).
Commenting on the deal, Shirley Cheng said:
"We are proud to have assisted Aula Energy on this flagship project. We’ve really valued being part of the growth of this fantastic business and working with such an energetic and brilliant team - having assisted on the initial acquisition of this project and the establishment of the Aula Energy itself. This project is another example of KWM’s market leading ability to advise on all aspects of renewable energy project development and work seamlessly across teams to deliver for our clients”.
KWM continues to be at the forefront of market leading transactions that support the country’s energy transition, having recently advised ENGIE to reach successful financial close of the Goorambat East Solar Farm.
