King & Wood Mallesons (KWM) has advised GED Capital on the structuring of its fund Conexo Ventures FCR, a new investment vehicle focused on venture capital. The fund, which has a target size of €40 million, plans to make around 20 investments in start-ups in Spain and Portugal in the digital sector, particularly companies that use software or artificial intelligence to develop its growth.

The fund, which formalised its first closing by the end of September with investment commitments of around €20 million, counts among its investors with entrepreneurs, family offices and institutional investors.

The King & Wood Mallesons team in charge of advising GED Capital was led by partner Ildefonso Alier. Other lawyers that have been part of this project include associate Inmaculada Munarriz.

According to Ildefonso, "the launch of Conexo by GED Capital is a clear example of the important evolution of the venture capital sector in Spain. In recent years we have witnessed an increase both in the venture funds created and in the number of deals they have carried out in Spain and elsewhere. Undoubtedly, this signifies an important boost to this ecosystem and specially, for entrepreneurs."

Previously, KWM advised GED Capital on the structuring and closing of some of its other investment vehicles, among them, GED VI España.
