KWM continues to expand in Silicon Valley

Global law firm King & Wood Mallesons (KWM) is expanding its US practice with the addition of international corporate partner Thomas M. Shoesmith. Mr. Shoesmith will play a key role in the ongoing development of the firm’s ability to serve clients in the US-Asia and global markets.

Mr. Shoesmith most recently headed the China Practice at a major US firm, where he spearheaded the expansion of that firm’s Shanghai office and the opening of its Beijing office. He practiced in Shanghai for a number of years and will be based in KWM’s Silicon Valley office. He is a graduate of Harvard Law School and Princeton University.

Mr. Shoesmith specializes in international M&A, complex joint venture, emerging growth, corporate finance and commercial transactions. He also brings to KWM expertise in US foreign investment (CFIUS) matters and has advised many US and Asian companies on their strategic approach to cross-border investments under the current US Administration. He has handled hundreds of transactions involving technology companies, manufacturers and distributors, financial institutions and others. He is a frequent speaker on US-China investment and regulatory matters.

KWM Partner Jack Wang said: “We are delighted to welcome Tom to the US partnership and to the team in Silicon Valley. As we look to assist our clients in navigating an increasingly complex market, Tom’s long history of cross-border corporate transactions, in addition to his CFIUS expertise, will further strengthen our international offering and standing as a top tier international firm.”

“King & Wood Mallesons brings a unique strength to the Bay Area and to the US market generally,” said Shoesmith. “The firm is a combination of two preeminent practices in the Asia Pacific region, and in addition has tremendous strength in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and the United States. For US clients, the firm offers a level of sophistication in Asia that no foreign firm can match. And the firm’s capabilities in the US mean Asia-based clients can stay with their trusted advisors even as they expand into the Americas.”

KWM is an international law firm with more than 2000 lawyers in 27 offices around the world.

Mr. Shoesmith joined the Silicon Valley office of the firm on October 1, 2019.
