King & Wood Mallesons (KWM) is advising RED Capital Partners, venture capital firm with offices in Madrid and Tel Aviv, on the structuring of its fund RED Ventures Fund I, the first investment vehicle in Spain aimed to invest exclusively in companies led or co-led by women. RED Ventures Fund I is not only the first initiative of this type in our country, but also the biggest investment vehicle in Europe designed with this specific strategy.
With a target size of EUR 50 million, RED Ventures Fund has got the purpose of promoting the interchange of the most advanced technology between European and Israeli companies. Additionally, the Fund will help Israeli businesses enter European markets. RED Ventures Fund also invests in European tech companies, with a special focus in Spain, to support them in their international expansion and access to top Israeli technology.
Isabel Rodríguez, Head of Private Equity at KWM Spain, is the Partner in charge of coordinating the advice to RED Capital Partners. Isabel points out that “in addition to the remarkable track record of RED’s team, its strategy is one of the key issues of its success. So far, this type of funds, orientated to investments in companies led or co-led by women have only been found in other markets, such as U.S. However, it is a completely novelty both in Europe and Israel. In KWM, we are delighted to have the opportunity to advise RED Capital Partners in this great project”.
On the other hand, Luz Ramírez, Founder and Managing Partner at RED Capital Partners, highlights that “at this moment we are perceiving a huge opportunity to invest in companies set up by women. Normally these businesses receive less financing, even though they lead projects with a higher rate of returns and with a lower percentage of failure”.
María de Orueta, Associate at KWM Spain, is other of the lawyers in this deal.
