Areas of Practice
Mr. Zhang is a partner in the Antitrust and Competition Division at KWM.
Mr. Zhang’s practice in antitrust areas include: representing clients to obtain antitrust clearance from antitrust authorities (including designing and implementing divestiture plan in complex cases); advising clients in antitrust administrative investigations and dawn raids; providing antitrust compliance advice on business models, pricing policies, and distributor management, etc.; assisting clients in conducting internal audits and training on antitrust compliance.
As a member of the KWM project team, Mr. Zhang has been actively involved in drafting regulations, measures for implementation and guidelines accompanying the AML.
In addition to antitrust and competition Law, Mr. Zhang’s practice areas also include National Security Review triggered in cross-border deals.
Mr. Zhang has advised clients in industries such as automobile, chemical, mining, energy, pharmaceutical, airlines, finance, IT, entertainment and retail among others.
Mr. Zhang’s representative merger filing projects include:
Represented Praxair in the merger filing of the merger between Praxair and Linde;
Represented Aluminum Corporation of China in the merger filing of Aluminum Corporation of China’s acquisition of Yunnan Metallurgical Group;
Represented Alcatel-Lucent in the merger filing of Nokia’s acquisition of equity of Alcatel-Lucent;
Represented Lockheed Martin in the merger filing of Lockheed Martin’s acquisition of Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation;
Represented Goldman Sachs in the merger filing of Goldman Sachs’s acquisition of Hamlet;
Represented Staple in the merger filing of the merger between Staples and Office Depot.
Mr. Zhang’s representative investigation projects include:
Represented FAW-VW Automotive Co. in an investigation initiated by the NDRC;
Represented China Merchants Port Holdings Corporation in an investigation initiated by the NDRC;
Represented a global leading pharmaceutical company in an investigation initialed by the NDRC;
Represented Yazaki Corporation in an investigation initiated by the NDRC;
Represented Nachi Fujikoshi Corporation in an investigation initiated by the NDRC;
Represented a global leading music company in an investigation initiated by SAMR.
Mr. Zhang joined King & Wood Mallesons in 2014. Before that, Mr. Zhang worked in an international law firm in Chicago, U.S and worked in an investment bank in Beijing.
Mr. Zhang holds a Bachelor of Laws from China University of Political Science and Law and a Master in Law from University of Pennsylvania.
Mr. Zhang was admitted as a lawyer in China in 2018.
Mr. Zhang’s working languages are Chinese and English.
