Areas of Practice
Mr. Zhang Shouzhi specializes in, litigation, arbitration and other dispute resolution proceedings in respect of disputes relating to cross-border trade and investment, banking and finance, infrastructure, intellectual property, product liability and recognition and enforcement of foreign and Hong Kong arbitral awards.
Mr. Zhang has served as counsel in more than 100 international arbitration cases under various rules, including those of CIETAC, BAC, ICC, SCC, HKIAC, SIAC, FOSFA and GAFTA. In commercial and civil litigation he has represented clients in more than 150 cases. Many of his clients are Fortune 100 companies including world-known banks and multinational companies.
Mr. Zhang has also served as legal counsel to many prestigious banks, energy companies, and infrastructure construction companies in China. In his capacity as legal counsel he has rendered advice on loans, international financing leases, project finance, export credit, foreign debt guarantees. Moreover, he has represented many companies in investment ventures and international trade transactions, especially import and export of large machinery.
Mr. Zhang has a wealth of practical experience in dealing with international cooperation on carbon emission reduction matters, especially on the purchase and sale agreements negotiation and dispute resolution in relation to emission reductions under United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change or voluntary emission reduction mechanism.
Mr. Zhang has been repeatedly recognized by Chambers Asia Pacific as a Band 1 lawyer in China in the areas of dispute resolution and international arbitration since 2009. Moreover, Mr. Zhang has been consecutively ranked as the “Eminent Practitioners” in Dispute Resolution (for both litigation and international arbitration practices) by Chambers from 2015 to 2019. In Asia Pacific Legal 500 2018 edition, he was recommended in the field of dispute resolution. He was selected as the 2015 “Lawyer of the Year: Dispute Resolution-Litigation” by China Law & Practice (CLP) and the 2018 “A-List Elite” for China practice by China Business Law Journal.
Mr. Zhang Shouzhi joined King & Wood Mallesons in 1999. Before joining King & Wood Mallesons, he worked at the International Practice Department of the Shandong Gold-Bridge Law Office.
Mr. Zhang obtained his LLB from the East China Institute of Political Science and Law. He has trained at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, in the London Office of Herbert Smith and in Essex Court Barristers’ Chamber.
Mr. Zhang is on the panel of arbitrators of CIETAC, SHIAC, SCIA and a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
Mr.Zhang is proficient in Chinese and English.
