Mr. Yong Kaichang specializes in international mergers & acquisitions, capital markets, corporate finance and commercial advisory. He also has substantive litigation and dispute resolution experience.

Mr. Yong has over 18 years of experience, and has lived and worked in Mainland China/China Hong Kong SAR for 14 years. He has led and advised on numerous significant global M&A transactions, covering all aspects such as transaction structuring, regulatory and compliance, due diligence, negotiations, transaction documentation, implementation and post-closing integration. He has led and advised on numerous securities transactions on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and the Singapore Stock Exchange, covering all aspects such as capital raising, equity and debt issues, acquisitions and disposals, and regulatory and compliance. 

Mr. Yong’s client portfolio covers many state-owned and state-linked enterprises, multinational and domestic companies, listed and private companies, investment banks and financial institutions, all in various industries such as energy, mining, infrastructure, construction,manufacturing, technology, real estate, aviation, automotive, hospitality, food and beverage, and financial services. 

Mr. Yong is listed in the “Legal 500” 2018 (Corporate and M&A) and in the “IFLR1000” 2018 (Financial and Corporate). Recently, he advised a PRC consortium of five state-owned enterprises in a US$1.95 billion investment in a Brazilian mining company, which was awarded Deal of the Year by Asian-Mena Counsel and China Business Law Journal.

Work Experience

Mr. Yong joined King & Wood Mallesons in 2016. Prior to this, he practiced at Baker & McKenzie (Shanghai/Beijing/China Hong Kong SAR ) and Drew & Napier (Singapore). He obtained his LLB degree (Honours) from the National University of Singapore in 2001. He is admitted as a lawyer in Hong Kong, Singapore, and England & Wales.

Mr. Yong is fluent in English and Chinese Mandarin.
