Areas of Practice
Richard specializes in cross-border finance including project finance and acquisition finance. Prior to joining KWM he also spent several years as in-house counsel, including two years in China, with a large Australian bank where his practice areas included M&A, labour law, IT law and dispute resolution as well as project management, people management, reputation and brand protection and business strategy development.
Richard joined King & Wood Mallesons in 2017. Prior to joining KWM, he worked as in-house counsel for the Commonwealth Bank of Australia and managed its Western Australia Legal Department from 2008 until 2015 and then its China based Legal Department until 2017. He spent seven years before that with Allens, in Perth and Melbourne, working primarily on project finance, bilateral and syndicated loans, structured finance and acquisition finance.
Prior to becoming a lawyer, Richard spent several years in the 1980s and 1990s, living and working in China, including two and a half years working for ChemChina in Lanzhou, Gansu Province in technical and quality control.
Richard qualified as a lawyer in Western Australia in 2000, and his working languages are English and Chinese.
