Areas of practice

Mr. Liao specializes in trademark, copyright, and domain name protection. He has extensive experience in representing foreign clients in their IP matters in China and his expertise includes trademark designing, consultation, applications, disputes, assignment, licensing, enforcement, customs recordation, litigation, copyright, domain name consultations, registrations, as well as counseling on anti-unfair competition. Mr. Liao also has a good understanding of trademark laws and practice in many other jurisdictions and has assisted various Chinese companies in their trademark protection around the world. Mr. Liao is actively involved in advising clients with well-known trademarks on protection strategies and corporate trademark portfolio management.

Mr. Liao has been ranked as one of "The World's Leading Trademark Professionals" in China by World Trademark Review (WTR) in its annual WTR 1000 rankings since 2011. In 2016, Mr. Liao was named as one of the IP Stars by Managing Intellectual Property (MIP). Mr. Liao was also enlisted as a legal expert in trademarks by Who's Who Legal.

Work experience

Mr. Liao joined King & Wood Mallesons in 2006. Prior to joining the firm, he worked as a trademark attorney with CCPIT Patent and Trademark Law Office from 1997.

He obtained his B.A. degree from Peking University and his LL.M. in Commercial and Corporate Law from University College London. He was admitted as a PRC attorney-at-law in 1999 and trademark attorney in 2000. He is proficient in Chinese and English.
