Areas of practice

Mr. XY Li specializes in cross-border mergers and acquisitions, private equity investment, technology transactions, intellectual property licensing agreements and disposal of non-performing assets.

Mr. Li represents multinationals and Chinese companies in cross-border mergers and acquisitions, including MNCs' investments and M&As in China and Chinese companies’ acquisitions overseas. Mr. Li also advises private equity clients on their investments and M&As in China.

As PRC legal counsel for the special committee of the company’s board, he participated in the privatization of Qihoo 360; he advised Silver Lake Partners, Baring Private Equity, Warburg Pincus Private Equity, Goldman Sachs Asia Fund and Century Bridge Real Estate Fund on their investments, M&As, and cross-border privatization projects in China; he also advised Ford Motor Company, Johnson & Johnson, etc. on their investments and M&As in China; and advised  Huarong Asset Management Company on its sale of the first non-performing loans valued at RMB 10.8 billion in China.

Mr. Li was enlisted as a legal expert in Corporate by Who's Who Legal, a well-known legal research institution.

Work experience

Mr. Li joined KWM in 2017. Prior to that, he was a senior partner at JunHe LLP. He practiced law at international law firms for 15 years, serving as partner.

Mr. Li attained his LLM from the Jilin University Law School in 1982, LLM from Harvard Law School in 1984, and JD from Stanford Law School in 1986.

Mr. Li is a licensed attorney in both the People’s Republic of China and California, the United States.

Mr. Li’s working languages are Chinese and English.
