King & Wood Mallesons partner Huang Jianwen recognized as one of the 2020 ALB China Top 15 Female Lawyers

On 20 October 2020, King & Wood Mallesons partner Huang Jianwen was recognized as one of the 2020 ALB China Top 15 Female Lawyers by Asian Legal Business for her extensive practical experience in inbound and outbound investment, domestic and cross-border M&A, compliance, pharmaceuticals & healthcare, and other fields, as well as her many years of client praise.  This ranking, conducted by ALB annually based on candidate seniority, recent key achievements, and involvement in significant transactions, identifies 15 outstanding and influential female professionals in the legal industry. 

Ms. Huang is the head of KWM’s Pharmaceuticals & Healthcare Practice Group and the director of KWM’s Belt & Road Center for International Cooperation and Facilitation (BRCICF).  With nearly 20 years of experience advising on inbound and outbound investment, domestic and cross-border M&A, compliance, and international trade matters, she understands the operation and management models and corporate philosophies adopted by various companies.  Equipped with an in-depth understanding of working cross-border and within a multi-jurisdictional legal framework, as well as her business acumen and understanding of core client interests, Ms. Huang provides clients with high-quality, professional, and value-added legal services.

In the field of pharmaceuticals & healthcare, Ms. Huang closely monitors the latest developments and legislative changes that impact the industry, actively advises on pharmaceutical & healthcare-related legislation, and leads her team in servicing a number of domestic and international enterprises, medical institutions, and trade associations.  In addition, Ms. Huang has also acted as lead counsel in numerous significant cross-border M&A projects across various jurisdictions in North America, South America, Australia, Europe, Central Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia, and Africa.

Leveraging her years of experience in cross-border M&A projects, particularly those in countries along the “Belt & Road”, Ms. Huang contributed significantly to the establishment of KWM’s BRCICF in 2019, which has attracted significant industry attention.  As a professional service platform integrating legal services, think tank study, consultancy, and international cooperation, BRCICF focuses on providing high-quality and professional legal services to Chinese and foreign participants when exploring opportunities along the “Belt & Road”.

Ms. Huang has received a wealth of awards and honors throughout her distinguished career, including recognition as one of the Top 1000 Lawyers for Foreign-Related Affairs by the PRC Ministry of Justice in 2019; a Leading Individual in the field of Healthcare & Life Sciences by The Legal 500in 2019 and 2020; and a Highly Recommended Lawyer in Healthcare & Life Sciences in China by The Legal 500 in 2018.  In addition, she was recognized as one of the 2017 A-List of Top 100 Lawyers by Business Law Journal and as a Highly Recommended Lawyer in the field of Corporate and M&A in China by The Legal 500 in 2015.

In addition, Ms. Huang has authored and published numerous books and  publications on foreign investment, inbound and outbound investment and domestic and cross-border M&A, and pharmaceuticals & healthcare, including Doing Business in Asia Pacific; The Foreign Investment Regulation Review (first, second, fifth, sixth and seventh editions), Pharmaceuticals and the Law: A Guide to Legal Services and Practices in China's Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Industry; Reference for European Lawyers - Distributions and Marketing of Drugs (first and second editions); and A Guide to the China-Australia FTA (a joint publication of PRC Consulate-General in Brisbane and KWM).
