In January 2019, King & Wood Mallesons (“KWM”) announced the addition of six new partners to its Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou offices, to further expand its capabilities in the areas of securities and capital markets, intellectual property rights, dispute resolution, etc. All six partners have extensive experiences and diversified client rosters in their respective areas of expertise and geographical regions, which will effectively consolidate the team strength in these three regions. They will also combine their respective offering and service insights with the firm’s culture to provide premium and innovative services to the clients.
The two new partners joining the Beijing office：
Ms. Tina Tai is an experienced patent attorney focused on pharmaceutical chemistry and polymer chemistry. She represented Pfizer as the lead counsel in an administrative litigation for a patent invalidation dispute. The case was widely covered by the Wall Street Journal and other media in China and abroad. Ms. Tai has also participated as a project leader in a number of major research projects organized by the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO), now China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), including the Nature of Invalidation Proceedings, the Study on the Costs and Strategies for Chinese Applicants Seeking Patent Protections Overseas (which has now been published by the Intellectual Property Publishing House) and the Comparative Study on Accurate Calculation of Damages for Patent Infringement. Over the years, Ms. Tai has been a highly recognized lecturer for the "Patent Reexamination and Invalidation", a training course offered by the All-China Patent Attorneys Association for new patent professionals. She was ranked as one of the first National IP Leading Experts and awarded by then SIPO as one of the first Leading Patent Attorneys in China.
Ms. Chen Hong specializes in civil and commercial dispute resolution. She has over 20 years of experience in dispute resolution with a focus on equity investment, construction and infrastructure projects. Ms. Chen has successfully represented a number of large conglomerates in disputes related to equity and debt investment, M&As, cooperative education programs as well as in mediation, litigation and arbitration proceedings pertaining to infrastructure investments such as mines, power plants, highways and subways, some of which were selected by "Internal Reference of Xinhua News Agency", "Xinhua News Agency Domestic News" and "Faren Magazine" as representative cases.
The new partner joining the Shanghai office:
Mr. Zhu Xuefeng’s practice areas include the criminal defense for economic crimes, business compliance, and the intervening areas of the criminal and civil practice. With more than 15 years of experience, Mr. Zhu is a criminal lawyer who enjoys high reputation and market position and is widely appraised for his expertise and professionalism. He has been focused on the economic crime defense and advised on criminal compliance issues and matters involving both criminal and civil law.
The three new partners joining the Guangzhou office:
Ms. Nie Ming specializes in corporate securities, M&As, and private equity funds. She has practiced law for over ten years and worked with an investment bank for more than 5 years. Ms. Nie has extensive experience in overseas listings, M&As, reorganization and restructuration and private equity investment. Her clients are from a wide range of industries, including biomedicine, TMT, consumer goods and retail, chemical, electronics and manufacturing. Ms. Nie is praised by his clients for her solid experiences, well-structured analysis and good judgment.
Ms. Fang Haiyan specializes in capital markets, corporate and M&As as well as private equity and venture capital investment. Ms. Fang has advised on a number of A- and H-share IPOs and listings, overseas red-chip restructuring, financing and listings, acquisition, restructuring and refinancing of listed companies, reorganization and restructuring, private equity and M&A projects. Her previous and current clients are from various industries such as biomedicine, services, TMT, real estate, consumer goods and retail, chemical, manufacturing, finance, internet and culture.
Mr. Zhang Le specializes in securitization and structured finance, PRC-related cross-border merger and acquisitions (M&As), banking and real estate. He has extensive experience in cross-border deals and has advised numerous transactions involving foreign direct investment into China and assisted Chinese enterprises to go global. With recent years’ practice in asset-backed securitization, Mr. Zhang advises clients on a wide array of underlying assets including, account receivables with credit enhancement by bank trade finance products, negotiable instruments, supply-chain finance by reverse factoring, financial lease, concession rights of infrastructure projects, REITs and CMBS. He has been awarded by legal and finance directories for a number of his securitization deals.
