Highly regarded by clients and market peers, Jessica is a senior legal professional in the international arbitration and dispute resolution practice areas. Qualified in both New York and the PRC, Jessica has over 20 years of experience working at international arbitration institutions and international law firms, advising PRC State-Owned Enterprises, multinationals and major regional corporates in the PRC, Asia, Europe and the U.S. on large-scale international arbitration, litigation and dispute avoidance matters. Jessica officially joined King & Wood Mallesons on 1st June, 2019.
With the economic globalization and the “Belt and Road” initiative propelling the growth of the marketplace, international arbitration is the dispute resolution mechanism of choice for resolving economic and trade investment disputes, eliminating investment and trade barriers and promoting the development of the international law. Jessica is a highly regarded lawyer in the international arbitration and dispute resolution space with extensive experience handling major and complex cross-border cases. She has a deep understanding in the interpretation of the legal system, as well as the relevant practical experience. Jessica is one of the very few leading English-Chinese bilingual dispute resolution experts who has extensive international background and experience, plus deep understanding of the Chinese clients and corporate culture. Prior to joining King & Wood Mallesons, she was a partner at Herbert Smith Freehills LLP for many years where she advises on a number of disputes, covering a wide range of areas from energy, infrastructure and construction to trade, international investment (e.g. Sino-foreign joint venture disputes), manufacturing, distribution, and intellectual property matters. She represents clients in China inbound and outbound international arbitrations (including ICC, LCIA, CIETAC, HKIAC, SIAC, SCC, AAA/ICDR, BAC and UNCITRAL) and litigation matters in both English and Chinese, in particular representing Chinese State Owned Enterprises in their overseas disputes proceedings and international clients in their China-related arbitrations.
Jessica regularly sits as an arbitrator in commercial arbitration cases, with substantial experience advising on cases before major international arbitration institutions. She is listed as an arbitrator on the following panels, including ICDR, CIETAC, SIAC, HKIAC, AIAC, KCRB, CEAC (Chinese European Arbitration Center, Germany), CRCICA, JCAA, THAC, Shanghai Arbitration Commission, Wuhan Arbitration Commission and Xiamen Arbitration Commission. She is a member of the International Advisory Committee of the AAA/ICDR, the CEAC Advisory Board, Vice President of the UIA Litigation Committee and Chair of NYSBA (New York State Bar Association) International Section (China Chapter). Jessica’s demonstrated track record will extend the firm’s capability in representing PRC and multinational clients on their disputes into China and out from China. Her PRC background and international experience will enable her to effectively leverage the firm’s presence in the Greater Bay Area and our global network to ensure consistent service delivery of the first-class quality.
