The long-awaited Civil Code of the People's Republic of China (the Civil Code) was officially adopted on 28 May 2020. The Civil Code is a fundamental law that strengthens the foundation, ensures stability in expectations and has long-term interests, and a code that has distinctive Chinese characteristics and keeps up with the practice and times. It will have profound and far-reaching implications on the development of rule of law and legal services in China.
