Patrick Atkinson

Patrick is a Special Counsel in the Sydney office of King & Wood Mallesons, with over 13 years' experience in Australia and Europe, advising on commercial transactions involving outsourcing, procurement, information technology and intellectual property. Patrick's clients operate across a range of sectors, in particular infrastructure, financial services, health, property and retail. He also acts on corporate and M&A transactions, with a particular focus on IP and IT issues, transitional and separation issues and ongoing supply arrangements.

Before joining King & Wood Mallesons, Patrick trained and worked for 6 years at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in London.

  • Confidential Banking client: advising client in relation to the reset of its Application Service Provider (ASP) panel including significant renegotiation of agreements with its ASP providers
  • Confidential Banking client: advising in relation to major services agreements with respect to management of cash and ATMs including with respect to transportation, storage and handling of cash and ATM supply, servicing and monitoring
  • Primary Health Care: advising in relation to the medical imaging subcontract awarded to Primary Health Care in relation to the Northern Beaches Hospital
  • NorthWestern Roads Group: advising on agreements for the replacement of WestlinkM7's tolling system and provision of NorthConnex' tolling system through design, delivery and operation of a tolling bureau (as-a-service) solution
  • Stockland: advising on the Stockland group’s business process outsourcing
  • WestlinkM7: advising on IT procurement projects (including roadside system upgrades) and tolling and customer management agreements, and associated privacy-related matters
  • Woolworths: advising Woolworths on significant IT and procurement projects and brand licensing and purchase arrangements

  • Macquarie Infrastructure and Real Assets-led consortium: advising in relation to the consortium’s successful bid in respect of the partial commercialisation of Landgate’s automated land titling, plan and associated services by the Western Australia Government
  • Transurban-led consortium: advising in relation to the $9.3 billion acquisition of a majority stake in WestConnex
  • Transurban-led consortium: advising in relation to the $7 billion acquisition of Queensland Motorways (including the concessions for the Clem Jones Tunnel, Gateway Motorway, Logan Motorway and Go Between Bridge)
  • Transurban Queensland: advising in relation to Transurban's $1.87 billion acquisition of Brisbane's AirportLinkM7
  • Transurban: advising in relation to Transurban's $475 million acquisition of the Cross City Tunnel
  • NorthWestern Roads Group: advising in relation to technology procurement and related project documents for the unsolicited proposal to build and operate NorthConnex
  • Confidential client: advising the underbidder on the proposed acquisition of the Swisse vitamins business
  • Far East Orchard: advising in relation to Far East Orchard's $225 million investment in the Toga Group (operator of the Medina Serviced Apartments, Adina Apartment Hotels, Vibe Hotels and Travelodge Hotels brands)
  • Novomatic: advising in relation to Novomatic's €300 million investment in Ainsworth Game Technology
