Suzy Madar is a partner in the Dispute Resolution team. She specialises in intellectual property, with a particular focus on patents, as well as commercial disputes and regulation of the health sector and other highly regulated industries. With a background in medical science, she has experience working on a broad range of technology, including IT, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, food products, consumer health products, medical devices and industrial inventions.
She is a recognised expert who advises clients on the enforcement of intellectual property rights and defending allegations of infringement, as well as on commercial issues relating to intellectual property. She represents clients in the Federal Court, Supreme Court and High Court as well as in Patent Office proceedings. Suzy also advises on transactions involving the transfer of intellectual property, therapeutic products and health services.
Suzy also has deep expertise in the regulation, advertising, pricing and reimbursement of therapeutic products, compliance with the Australian Consumer Law and public health issues (including in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic).
Suzy is recognised by IP Stars (Patent Star and Top 250 Women in IP), IAM Patent and Legal 500, Doyles Guide, and AFR Best Lawyers (IP and Life Sciences).
She has been described as “the go-to name for health products companies looking to enforce their patent rights and defend themselves against infringement and opposition claims” (IAM Patent 2022) and a “hyper-skilled” patent expert with “real understanding of the pharmaceuticals and biotech industries”.
Suzy is a member of the Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology Subcommittee of the Intellectual Property Owners Association and a member of the Intellectual Property Society of Australia and New Zealand.
