Mr. Mark Fu specialises in intellectual property and technology related matters. His practice encompassed a variety of aspects concerning IP/IT law, with a primary focus on counseling multinational corporations and Chinese companies on structuring and negotiating complex cross-border transactions with a significant IP element.
His clients cover a wide range of industries, including fin-tech and financial services, automobile and autonomous vehicles, communications and semiconductor, pharmaceutical and healthcare, consumer products and chemical industry. He has extensive experience handling complex IP acquisition as well as related M&A and joint venture transactions, including software and online services agreements, patent licenses and technology transfer agreements, content and media agreements, data licensing and distribution agreements, as well as agreements relating to IP developed by universities or with government resources. Mr. Fu’s technical background allows him to understand the technology and business drivers underlying transactions.
Mr. Fu regularly assists multinational companies in developing strategies, policies and procedures for IP protection and regulatory matters in China. He also counsels clients on strategies for maintaining, protecting, and expanding their digital assets and for navigating cybersecurity, telecom license, technology import and export, data privacy related regulatory matters in commercial context. Mr. Fu has been acknowledged as an Excellent IP Lawyer by Shanghai Intellectual Property Service Association.
Mr. Fu joined King & Wood Mallesons in 2016. Formerly, he worked in the Shanghai office of a leading U.S. law firm. Prior to that, Mr. Fu worked for a Fortune 500 U.S. company where he took charge of general IP matters for Asia Pacific.
Mr. Fu received an LL.B. degree from East China University of Political Science and Law with minor in electric engineering and automation. In 2010, he obtained LL.M. degree from University of Illinois College of Law.
Mr. Fu is admitted to practise law in the State of New York and China, and is also a qualified patent attorney in China.
Mr. Fu is fluent in English and is a native Chinese speaker.
