With 20 years’ experience, Dan is recognised in Australia and abroad as a leader in responsible business, sustainability & pro bono. He is the Director of Responsible Business at international top-tier law firm, King & Wood Mallesons (KWM), and is a member of its AU & SG Leadership Group.
In this senior leadership role, Dan leads KWM's responsible business framework and has primary responsibility for 3 of its 6 divisions: Pro Bono & Social Impact, Climate Change & Environment, and the First Nations Strategy. As the responsible business landscape rapidly evolves, Dan plays a crucial role in aligning KWM with the dynamic frameworks of ESG, the Development Goals and contemporary best practice. He therefore coordinates & contributes to the firm's thinking and response across the 3 other aligned divisions: Ethics & Risk, Responsible Procurement (including Modern Slavery) and Diversity & Inclusion.
Dan’s approach is steeped in collaboration for impact & KWM's deep commitment to a strategic & joined-up approach to responsible business. He chairs KWM’s Responsible Business Leadership Team and the firm's global Pro Bono & Social Impact Forum. He is also a member of the firm's Inclusion Council and its Climate Change & Environment Council.
KWM received the Corporate Citizen of the Year award at the 2022 Australasian Law Awards and in 2023, the firm was ranked in the Top 10 Workplaces To Give Back (for the third year in a row) by GoodCompany.
With a wealth of experience as a pro bono & responsible business lawyer, Dan has also served as a director on the boards of various not-for-profit organisations. This diversity in his professional background, combined with his international and local experience, has enabled him to develop specialist expertise and a substantial network. Dan is particularly proud of his work with and alongside a broad range of for-purpose organisations and community legal centres.
Dan’s skill set extends across several critical areas, including executive leadership, pro bono & legal practice, strategic planning & execution, organisational development, effective communications & engagement, social mobility programs, theories of change, carbon neutrality, science-based targets (SBTs) & impact evaluation.
