King & Wood Mallesons (KWM) provides legal services for the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) projects in an active response to the BRI proposed by President Xi Jinping in 2013. As an international, diverse and innovative legal service provider, KWM established the KWM Belt & Road Center for International Cooperation and Facilitation (BRCICF) in 2019 with an aim to connect the government and enterprises, and to provide high-quality professional services to both Chinese and foreign participators who want to explore the opportunity brought by the BRI. To date, KWM has advised on more than 1,000 BRI projects and matters in 65 countries along the Belt and Road, covering key sectors such as energy, transportation, information, infrastructure, finance, manufacturing and services.

KWM lawyers have written a number of articles on a range of legal issues and practices in BRI investment and financing, international engineering, dispute resolution, and energy investment based on their own practical experience in BRI projects. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of KWM China, BRCICF is going to release a series of publications on BRI law and practice. The BRI Law and Practice - Offshore Investment and Financing is the first volume of this series. This publication discusses and interprets hot issues such as investment and financing laws, business environment, and investment in new energy projects in countries along the Belt and Road, hoping to provide an enlightening reference for readers interested in exploring new business opportunities in this area.

Since early 2025, the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) has been gradually adjusting the evidentiary requirements for applicants of the non-use cancellation proceedings. The applicants of non-use cancellations have been receiving Notifications of Amendment one after another, with increasingly demanding requirements for additional information and materials.  On May 26, 2025, the CNIPA updated the guidance on "Application for Non-use Cancellation of a Registered Trademark" (https://sbj.cnipa.gov.cn/sbj/sbsq/sqzn/202303/t20230330_26201.html) on its website to provide detailed explanations of changes in documentation requirements faced by non-use cancellation applicants. This article is intended to outline the specific changes in requirements on applicants of the non-use cancellations, explore the motivations behind the changes, and provide some advice to help trademark registrants prepare for potential non-use cancellations, as well as to assist applicants of non-use cancellations in adjusting their filing strategies.intellectual property-trademarks and copyright
