Germany is an important destination for Chinese investors. Chinese M&A investments in Germany increased from 8 in 2010 to 68 in 2016. Despite a decline in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and other reasons, the number of such projects started to pick up in 2021. Germany remains the preferred choice for Chinese investors in Europe.
Chinese investors are facing a more challenging investment environment amid tightening foreign exchange controls in China and greater protection of sensitive and critical industries in the EU. To help Chinese investors better understand how to do M&A in Germany, the KWM German office composed the Doing M&A in Germany, which focuses on German M&A regulations, regulations on overseas investment by Chinese enterprises, German labor and employment law, and other laws and practices related to doing M&A in Germany. This pamphlet is released in Chinese and English, intending to help with Chinese enterprises’ investment in Germany.
