On 22 March 2018, King & Wood Mallesons received five awards at the Asia Legal Awards 2018 in Hong Kong. The awards identify the most important transactions and cases with the most complex and outstanding legal work in Asia.
KWM's Securities practice was recognised and awarded "Securities Firm of the Year" for the high-profile and complex matters that the group advised on throughout the year of 2017.
The following transactions received "Deal of the Year" recognitions:
- Finance Deal of the Year: Insolvency and Restructuring – PT Bumi Resources $4.5B global debt restructuring
- Finance Deal of the Year: Acquisitions – Yancoal financing for Rio Tinto Australian assets acquisition
- Securities Deal of the Year: Debt – Alibaba $7B investment grade notes offer
- TMT Deal of the Year – China Unicom $12B Mixed Ownership Reform
