On 10 May 2018, in the 2018 ranking of World IP Survey by Managing Intellectual Property (MIP), King& Wood Mallesons IP team was ranked top tier in both patent prosecution and patent contentious. Prior to this, KWM was ranked top tier in both trademark prosecution and trademark contentious by MIP this March. So far, KWM has been ranked top tier in the aforementioned four categories for three consecutive years. Additionally, four KWM partners were recognized as IP Stars, namely Wang Maohua (patent), Zhu Nongfan (patent, trademark), Shi Yusheng (patent, trademark) and Liao Fei (trademark).
Based on extensive research on patent, trademark, and other areas of IP, MIP ranks law firms and lawyers in different markets annually. Also, MIP gives awards to winners in various sub-areas of IP in different jurisdictions. At the MIP Asia Awards 2018 Ceremony held in March, KWM was awarded "China firm of the year 2018" prize in patent contentious and trade contentious.
