Addressing Vision China's audience, Rupert Li comments: "Fast forwarding 40 years to 2018, China has come a long way. Our achievements are commendable, and many have wondered, what are the host of reasons contributing to China's reform and opening up?"

As a member of China's legal profession, Rupert Li offered three reasons for China's successful development:

First, China's nascent Rule of Law has been a principal factor in ensuring the success of China's reform and opening up. Amongst developing countries in general and BRICs countries in particular, China offers the best protection for investments by foreign investors.

Second, China could not become the world's leading trading power unless we have respect for the spirit of contracting.

Third, China has been an ardent follower of best practices and legislation globally ranging from money laundering, to data protection, to patent registration.

Rupert Li adds: "After 40 years of reform, the onus is now on us to keep up the opening as we have repeatedly done so by different government officials and party luminaries. We have reaffirmed our commitment to Rule of Law, in addition to our avowed adherence to globalization. We hope that our friends in the UK continue to have faith in us and we will overcome our difficulties and improve our institutions and adopt best practices."
