On 27 March, the Ministry of Justice convened the National Conference on the Commendation of Advanced Collectives and Individuals in Legal Aid and Public Legal Services and the Promotion Conference on the Construction of Modern Public Legal Service System in Beijing. King & Wood Mallesons (KWM) was awarded "National Advanced Collective in Public Legal Services".
A total of 300 advanced collectives and 450 advanced individuals in legal aid as well as 698 advanced collectives and 944 advanced individuals in public legal services were commended at the conference. Thirty-two collectives and 41 individuals within Beijing’s judicial administrative system were recognised.
Throughout the years, KWM has prioritised the integration of lawyers’ professional expertise with social responsibilities, actively engaging in pro bono legal services and contributing to the construction of public legal service system.
KWM has participated in initiatives such as the "Western Lawyers Training Programme", supported the Xiangtan Lawyers Association to carry out the "KWM - Xiangtan Young Lawyer Leadership Training Camp ", and jointly launched the "KWM - Xizang Young Lawyers Growth Programme" with the Xizang Autonomous Region Lawyers Association.
In 2023, in response to the "1+1" China Legal Aid Volunteer Programme, KWM donated to establish the “KWM Pro Bono Legal Service Special Fund” with the China Legal Aid Foundation. It aims to provide professional training, further assisting lawyers in central and western China to enhance their professional strengths and capabilities, thereby contributing to meeting the demand for high-quality legal services among the public.
