Reporting to the Chief Executive Partner AU, Dan leads the Responsible Business practice at King & Wood Mallesons and is a member of the firm’s Executive Group.
Dan has primary responsibility for Community Impact, the firm's social impact practice, which has a new vision of 'Strong Communities Where Young People Thrive'. Community Impact works in trusted partnerships with community-led organisations, emerging leaders and respected advocates to further strengthen communities through strategic legal, justice & advisory projects, holistic pathways programs and targeted grants. The practice is underpinned by substantial strategies, commitments & practices centring First Nations Peoples, community-control & Closing the Gap.
Through the lens of rapidly growing ESG and UN Sustainable Development Goals frameworks, Dan also coordinates & contributes to the firm’s thinking & response across climate change & sustainability, responsible procurement, risk and diversity & inclusion, as part of KWM's strategic & joined-up approach to responsible business practices.
Dan also co-leads the firm’s global pro bono & community practice, Global Community Impact.
Dan is a leading pro bono & responsible business lawyer, a director of various public companies and has global, regional & local experience. He has developed considerable expertise, and has built a substantial practice, in working with & alongside a broad range of for-purpose organisations & legal centres, especially First Nations community-controlled organisations. Dan has highly developed skills in law & legal practice, strategic planning & execution, organisational development, communications & engagement, social mobility, theories of change & impact evaluation.
Dan has been involved in delivering significant responsible business projects, with large teams of people and in a variety of jurisdictions, including Australia, Singapore, South Africa, Myanmar, Thailand, China, Japan, Laos, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Samoa, Papua New Guinea, the Cook Islands, Timor Leste and the Solomon Islands.
