Robert Edel is a global leader in the infrastructure, energy and natural resources sector and has extensive experience in advising on the acquisition, sale and development of mining, energy and infrastructure projects in Australia, the Middle East, Africa and Asia. Since 2008, he has been recognised as one of Australia's top 20 project development and financing lawyers and as a "leading individual" in the area of Energy and Natural Resources Law by Chambers Global.
Robert's practice covers all aspects of project development in the mining, energy and infrastructure sectors. He is involved in the drafting and negotiating sale and purchase agreements, concession agreements, privatisation agreements, advising on project structures, third party access, obtaining permits to operate, land access, construction contracts, off take contracts, preparation of power and water supply contracts and dealing with operational issues. Robert has particular expertise in the acquisition, sale, development and operation of infrastructure assets, including digital infrastructure, transport, energy, water infrastructure.
Robert advises joint venture participants, project developers, infrastructure funds, resources companies (including juniors), financiers and contractors. He advises many Australian and international companies on their investments in emerging markets and regularly advises on major cross border transactions, including companies from Australia, the Middle East, Africa and North Asia. Robert also has extensive experience in relation to Chinese investment in Australia, Africa and South-East Asia.
Robert has been the Chair of the Western Australian Energy Review Board and a Director of the Board of Fremantle Ports.
