John is an M&A and International funds partner with an Asia-Pacific regional practice and nearly 30 years of experience. John specialises in investment funds, capital raising and M&A.

John is a cross-border expert, with a focus on the real estate, infrastructure, natural capital, private equity and financial services sectors. John offers unique Asian experience available locally having been active in international funds in Asia since the early 2000s.

John is closely engaged in capital raising and new product development in the ESG/Natural Capital space, including products with impact and/or carbon offset components.

John practises both English and Australian law and has worked in Singapore, Sydney and London. He was a founding partner of KWM Singapore and partner in charge from its launch in 2015 until he returned to Sydney in late 2019.

John’s experience includes large Australian and regional fund raisings, clubs, co-investments and joint ventures. He also advises extensively on cross-border M&A / investment for Australian and foreign clients including fund managers and major SWF/pension funds. He has also advised on capital raising and restructures for listed REITs and infrastructure funds.

John's recent work highlights include:

  • New Forests: second Pan-Asian forestry fund dedicated to investing in sustainable forestry in tropical Southeast Asia - TAFF 2
  • Major manager: proposed natural capital fund raising
  • Dexus: Industria REIT acquisition of interest in Jandakot airport and Healthcare Fund acquisition of further 50% interest in Adelaide medical facility
  • Gardior: capital raisings and restructures for TIF/ The Infrastructure Fund, managed by MAM
  • Global pension fund: restructure of Dexus Office Trust Australia, Sydney Central station redevelopment, and investment in Barangaroo and AMP Capital Shopping Centre trust
  • Igneo/First Sentier: various restructures and capital raisings for Global Diversified Infrastructure Fund over a ten year period
  • Major manager: Pan-Asian data centre fund with sovereign wealth investor and various roles for the wholesale real estate series of funds and the regional shopping centre fund
  • MAM: Asia-Pacific Real Estate Tactical Club and various related acquisitions in Australian and elsewhere in Asia-Pacific
  • MAM: China Infrastructure Funds and Indian Infrastructure Funds
  • MAM: capital raisings for Macquarie Australian Infrastructure Trust and role for MAIT on recent acquisition of interests in Endeavour Energy
