King & Wood Mallesons (KWM) has advised Origin Energy on the sale of its Darling Downs Solar Farm project in Queensland to APA Group.

Under the terms of the transaction, Origin will purchase all power from the 110MW Queensland solar farm once it becomes operational in 2018 until 2030. Origin will also acquire the associated Renewable Energy Certificates.

The KWM team advised on all aspects of the offtake agreement and sale. Partner Scott Gardiner led the transaction with support from Solicitor Shirley Cheng. Partner Shannon Etwell advised on the construction related aspects of the deal with support from Solicitor Nicole Wieringa.

Commenting on the deal, Mr Gardiner said: "We are very pleased to have supported our client Origin on the successful sale of the solar farm and to have helped them secure another long-term agreement to purchase renewable power. Origin is committed to increasing the uptake of renewable energy in Australia and this agreement will take them one step further to achieving their goal of building or contracting 1,500 MW of new large scale renewable generation of 2020."

KWM also assisted Origin with securing $20m in funding for the development of the Darling Downs Solar project from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) which will now be provided to APA as the new project owner.
