KWM welcomes ten lawyers to the Australian partnership

King & Wood Mallesons (KWM), Asia’s top tier international law firm, is pleased to announce the promotion of ten lawyers as partners in Australia, effective 1 July 2021.

The promotions recognise individuals who have demonstrated exceptional legal expertise, excellence in client service and strong leadership capabilities over the course of their careers.

The announcement follows the recent promotion of 32 partners in China, which reflects the firm’s leading platform in Asia and the scale, depth and breadth of its capability in the region.

The Australian partner promotions for 2021 are:

Catherine Danne: Banking & Finance, Melbourne

Catherine is a member of the Banking and Infrastructure practice and specialises in project and infrastructure financing, project and asset procurement and development and corporate and general financing. Her experience includes advising sponsors, developers, contractors and financiers across a broad range of project sectors, including social infrastructure (hospitals, schools and social/affordable housing), infratech (land registry and data centres), economic infrastructure (roads and transport) and renewables/energy (wind and solar).

Liam Burgess: Dispute Resolution, Sydney

Liam is a member of our Dispute Resolution practice specialising in class actions, regulatory investigations, financial services and commercial disputes. Liam acts for a range of clients including major banks, insurers, fintechs, real estate companies, manufacturers and governments.

Tamara Hunter: Dispute Resolution, Sydney

Tamara works in the competition and consumer law arena, helping clients to navigate major commercial litigation, providing advice on commercial transactions, and supporting clients through regulatory investigations and applications. Tamara has acted in cartel and consumer law regulatory matters and class actions, balancing clients’ commercial needs against the technical competition and consumer law landscape.

Ruth Rosedale: Employee Relations & Safety, Perth

As a member of the national Employee Relations and Safety team based in Perth, Ruth advises major employers in the financial services, health, mining, agriculture and food production and manufacturing industries on all aspects of employment and industrial relations law and disputes. Her expertise also encompasses workplace investigations - including under the whistle-blower regime.

Anthony Boogert: Mergers & Acquisitions, Sydney

A member of the Mergers & Acquisitions practice, Anthony advises financial sponsors, corporates and investment banks on a variety of domestic and cross-border transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, initial public offerings and other securities offerings, joint ventures and corporate governance. He is an expert in private equity and venture capital, with a particular focus on technology companies.

Jack Hill: Mergers & Acquisitions, Melbourne

A member of the Mergers & Acquisitions team, Jack has a broad practice spanning both transactional and corporate advisory matters with a particular focus on capital raisings, listed company corporate governance and public and private M&A. Jack regularly advises large ASX-listed clients across a wide range of sectors including financial services, telecommunications, information technology and infrastructure.

Michelle Astridge: Projects & Real Estate, Sydney

A member of the Project and Real Estate team, Michelle advises corporates, government and regulators on all aspects of planning and environmental law. She specialises in providing advice on significant development and infrastructure projects (securing and implementing State and federal approvals) and on liability arising from non-compliances with planning and environmental legislation. She also has extensive experience in appearing for clients in Court appeals concerning development projects, judicial review proceedings and the compulsory acquisition of land.

Andrew Barrett: Projects & Real Estate, Melbourne

A member of the Melbourne Real Estate team, Andrew has a multi-disciplinary practice spanning real estate finance, development and capital transactions. Andrew offers a unique skill set - utilising his real estate expertise, property finance experience and civil engineering degree to advise investors, sponsors and lenders on all aspects of real estate projects, acquisitions and divestments. Andrew has a broad client base with a particular focus on debt and equity investments and capital partnering activities of a large number of fund managers and non-bank lenders.   

Kate Dean: Projects & Real Estate, Sydney

A member of the Environment and Planning practice, Kate specialises in environmental, planning and valuation law for the infrastructure, energy and resources and real estate sectors. Kate's work primarily involves advising clients in relation to planning assessment and approval processes, voluntary planning agreements, environmental compliance issues, remediation of land, land access and compulsory acquisition of land.

Greg Protektor: Tax, Melbourne

A member of the Tax practice, Greg advises on tax issues relating to mergers and acquisitions, financial transactions and property-based deals. Greg supports clients across a wide range of industries including financial lines, insurance, media, construction, telecommunications and resources. Greg advises on income tax, GST, employment taxes, stamp duties and other State and Territory taxes nationwide. He also advises on matters involving the taxation of not-for-profits.
